Tests 3 to 8 must be completed at one time without changing gear, i. e., if a suit is worn it must be worn for all tests. Candidates wearing suits must demonstrate buoyancy check. Tests 3 to 8 are to be done in pairs of demonstrating pre-dive check and use of hand signals. All gear to be of type approved by NZ Underwater Association.

1.         Have the Swimming Personal Challenge.

 

2.         Understand the effects of colds and illness on divers, the need for physical fitness; basic hand signals; know the hazards of diving in the sea and how to deal with them.

 

3.         With fins, mask and snorkel, fin 200m diving every 25m to pick up a 5kg weight and bring to the surface. On the last dive, the weight is to be carried the final 25m and handed up to the examiner without touching the edge of the pool.

 

4.         Tow an adult 50m by any recognised and effective life-saving method, and demonstrate oral resuscitation while in the water; land the patient and carry out artificial respiration.

 

5.         Perform three rolls forward on one breadth, and three rolls backward on one breath.

 

6.         Fin 15 metres under water with fins and a further 15 metres underwater without fins.

 

7.         Remove all gear in deep end. Recover and put on underwater (one dive allowed for each item). If using suit, weight belt need not be removed. Mask must be cleared of bulk water before re-surfacing.

 

8.         Demonstrate "roll-in", "jump-in", and "jump-in" from 1 m.
